Medieval Manuscript Studies – under construction

Hello!

I am a PhD Student in Finnish and Nordic History at the University of Helsinki. The topic of my doctoral dissertation is the cult of saints in the medieval Realm of Sweden during the later Middle Ages. My research concentrates on cults of Swedish saints. I study how and why their local cults spread to other dioceses of Sweden during the long 14th century. I have two main focuses: what was the saints liturgical role and what was their popular image. My overall aim is to provide a synthesis on the cult of saints in Sweden and the role of saints in religious veneration.

Status of my research

I am in the 2nd year of my PhD. Currently I am studying liturgy of Swedish saints with a focus on variations of a saints liturgy in different Swedish dioceses. At the moment I am researching mass traditions of Swedish saints for an article. I am also investigating different ruling patterns used in Swedish manuscript books.
